Home Environment

First, our main goal is to ensure that our student’s initial experience away from home will be stress free, warm and inviting.  Secondly, we strive to provide a safe and secure environment where children can acquire the skills they need in order to be successful in Kindergarten.   Finally, our home environment encourages and nutures a positive emotional climate which is important to the process of all student learning.

Classroom Environment

What is Multiage?

A multi-age classroom contains a mixed-age group of children who stay with the same teacher for several years.  The children, teacher, and parents become a unique "family of learners".  The multiage classroom is designed to give every child the opportunity to find success on his or her own path of growth.  Children progress along a continuum of simple to more complex material.  In our classroom, students begin with us at 12 months and stay with us until four or five years, depending on their birth date.   However, before a child is introduced to structured programming, our initial and on-going focus is in promoting healthy growth in all areas of development through play in an engaging environment.

Curriculum

Family Child Care Homes Instructional Units

I chose this program to use in my daycare because their standards-based, literacy-focused curriculum units are designed to be used within  a Family Home Care environment with multi-aged groups, ranging in age from 2+ through age 4.

The 18 Instructional Unit topics specifically address the development of background knowledge and vocabulary and language skills that focus on the interests of children. Interaction with hands-on materials and activities gives children focused time with teachers, enabling them to participate in more sophisticated, complex conversations and activities.   I want your child's time with me to be safe, fun, and productive.  The learning concepts that they are being introduced to are a primer for kindergarten.  My goal is not to have them master all the concepts presented.  My focus is to have them acquire the basic skills necessary for success in any learning environment.
